Elevation: 1,500 M To 2,500 M

Hiking Time: 4-5 Hours

Distance: 10 Km

Difficulty: Medium

Habitat: Meadows And Rainforest

You will be picked up from your accommodation in the early morning and brought to the Momella Gate in Arusha National Park. While you sign up for a Tanzania National Park registration, our porters will sort and pack your items (TANAPA). With the possibility of seeing giraffes, zebras, antelope, buffalo, and perhaps elephants along the trail, the first day of hiking offers a singular experience akin to a walking safari.

Our crew will hike with an armed ranger from the National Park in order to keep everyone safe. The Ngarenanyuki River and a stunning waterfall at the foot of Mount Meru are also visible as you hike farther. Our chef will make a nice dinner and give warm water for you when you get to Miriakamba Hut (2,500 m).

Since this is your first day at this altitude, it is critical that you heed the following directions moving forward:

  • Keep alcohol and caffeine intake to a minimum
  • daily, in little doses and frequently, consume more than 4 liters of bottled water.
  • You may have discomfort while you acclimate to the high altitude at night. Because of the altered respiratory patterns while sleeping at high altitudes, you inhale less oxygen than you do during the day. As a result, you may become ill or experience headaches. Pay great attention to your body for any signs of altitude sickness, and notify your guide as soon as possible.

Elevation: 2,500 M To 3,550 M

An early dinner will be served, allowing you ample rest before the midnight summit attempt.

Elevation: 3,550 m to 4,562 m  – 4,562 m to 1,500 m

Hiking time: 12-14 hours

Distance: 16 km

Difficulty: medium

Habitat: alpine, heath, moorland

The summit push begins in the early morning, around 00:00. From there, it is an hour’s hike on a steep path to reach the summit of Meru Peak (4,562 m), offering magnificent views of Kilimanjaro, the Crater rim cliffs, the Ash Cone, and the Rift Valley.

Depending on your pace, you can enjoy the sunrise at Cobra Point or the summit itself. The return route in the morning light follows a narrow ridge between the sloping outer wall of the crater and the cliffs of the inner wall, providing a dramatic and exhilarating walk. After a brief rest and brunch at Saddle Hut, you will continue the descent to Momella Gate. Once you reach the bottom, the entire group will gather to congratulate you on your achievement before transferring you to Moshi or Arusha town.

Rest at the hotel and transfer to the airport.

Note: Hotel check-out is at 11:00 AM. If you have an evening flight and require a late check-out, you have the option to extend your hotel stay for an additional fee.
