Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi
Upon your arrival in Nairobi, your journey into the wild heart of East Africa begins. You’ll be met by our safari guide and transferred directly to Lake Nakuru National Park, a haven for birdlife and home to both black and white rhinos. The drive offers your first glimpse of Kenya’s highlands and dramatic escarpments. Once you arrive, enjoy a relaxed check-in at Flamingo Hill Tented Camp, followed by an afternoon game drive. As the sun begins to set, look out for rhinos grazing by the lakeshore, flamingos painting the water pink, and tree-climbing lions lounging in the distance.
Day 2: Lake Nakuru to Lake Bogoria
After breakfast, set off for Lake Bogoria, one of the most geologically active regions in Kenya. You’ll pass through rugged terrain and rural landscapes before arriving at the lake, famous for its hot springs, geysers, and flocks of lesser flamingos. Enjoy a game drive through the reserve, where you might also spot greater kudu, warthogs, and gazelles roaming the arid bush. Later, unwind at the Lake Bogoria Spa Resort, soaking in the mineral-rich hot springs and taking in the surreal landscape.
Day 3: Lake Bogoria to Lake Naivasha
Leave the Tarangire ecosystem and journey through the beautiful highlands of Ngorongoro before entering the legendary Serengeti National Park. Along the way, keep an eye out for Maasai villages and scattered wildlife.
Upon entering Serengeti, you’ll begin game driving immediately—your first taste of the endless golden plains and scattered acacia trees. By afternoon, you’ll arrive at your camp for a relaxing evening.
Day 4: Lake Naivasha to Maasai Mara
After breakfast, the journey continues south to the iconic Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Arrive in time for lunch at Zebra Plains Mara, your luxurious tented camp nestled in the heart of the Mara plains. In the afternoon, embark on your first Mara game drive. The open savannahs teem with wildlife, including lions, elephants, cheetahs, and wildebeest. You’ll begin to see signs of the Great Migration, with herds stretching across the horizon.
Day 5 & 6: Full-Day Game Drives in Maasai Mara
For the next two days, immerse yourself in the pulse of the Great Migration. Early morning game drives take you to the Mara River, where crocodiles lie in wait and wildebeest dare to cross in dramatic fashion. With your experienced guide, explore different corners of the park, track the big cats, and watch as nature unfolds in raw and powerful displays. Enjoy a picnic lunch under an acacia tree and return to your camp for dinner under the stars.
Day 7: Cross the Border – Maasai Mara to Serengeti
After breakfast, you’ll drive to the Isebania border, passing through rural Kenya. After clearing customs, enter Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park and continue the journey to your mobile camp in the north. Tonight, you’ll settle in at Mara Migration Camp, strategically located near the Mara River on the Tanzanian side to continue following the migration. Enjoy a hearty dinner and a fire-lit evening under the Serengeti stars.
Day 8 & 9: Northern Serengeti
Spend two full days exploring the remote northern Serengeti, where the Great Migration unfolds along the riverbanks. Your game drives focus on tracking wildebeest herds, predator interactions, and possible river crossings—one of Africa’s most iconic wildlife spectacles. The region is less crowded, giving you an exclusive, uninterrupted safari experience. Return to Mara Migration Camp each evening to relax and relive the day’s incredible sightings.
Day 10 & 11: Central Serengeti
Venture southward into the central Serengeti, where you’ll encounter vast savannahs and kopjes—the rocky outcrops favored by lions and leopards. Game drives here offer sightings of elephants, buffalo, hyenas, and massive herds of grazing animals. Stay at Serengeti Heritage Tented Camp, a luxurious base with sweeping views. Over two days, you’ll explore prime wildlife corridors and photograph golden sunsets that seem to set the whole plain ablaze.
Day 12: Serengeti to Ngorongoro
After breakfast and a final Serengeti game drive, you’ll make your way east toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The journey itself is rich with wildlife sightings and stunning scenery. As you ascend into the crater highlands, the air becomes crisp and the views more dramatic. Arrive at Rhino Lodge, perched on the rim of the crater, just in time for a warm dinner and a restful evening.
Day 13: Ngorongoro Crater Safari – Maasai Culture & Return to Arusha
Today, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for one of Africa’s most unique safari experiences. The crater floor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is teeming with animals including the elusive black rhino, large prides of lions, and massive tusker elephants. After a picnic lunch near a hippo pool, begin the drive back to Arusha. On the way, you’ll visit a local Maasai community and experience their traditional lifestyle and culture. Tonight, you’ll stay at Under the Shade Safari Lodge.
Day 14: Departure
After breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, you’ll be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport. Reflect on your incredible two-week journey through Kenya and Tanzania, knowing you’ve witnessed one of the most iconic wildlife migrations on the planet.
